The newest addition to the Friends Book Store is the sturdy, but chic book bag for $10. Check out the quotation:

Whatever the cost of our libraries, it is cheap compared to that of an ignorant nation.

Civic Auditorium Book Sales

Each spring and fall, the Friends of the Santa Cruz Public Libraries holds its huge book sale at the Civic Auditorium in downtown Santa Cruz. The books and media sold are the crème de la crème of the library donations, from fiction to children’s books, audio tapes and music (sorry, no vinyl). Our non-fiction covers subjects from A-Z: cookbooks, crafts, foreign languages and gardening, health &well-being, poetry, religion &spirituality, travel, reference, sports &games, and humor! We also have an impressive selection of vintage books, including some real treasures of antiquity.

I’ve been looking for this book all over the world. I found it in London for 800 pounds. I paid $2 today!

While the dates change for the sales on occasion, the times are usually 5:30–8 pm for the Friends Members-Only Friday Night Preview and open to the public on Saturday from 10 am–2 pm. The fall sale is in October or November and the spring sale is in April or May. Check the Friends calendar or the website for dates.

Childrens’ Sales

In the deep winter and the last week of July, FSCPL holds it sales for children. Usually in late January or early February, the Childrens’ sale is held at the Central Branch. The “Kids-Only” summer sale is at the Festival of the Book, held on the last Sunday in July – the culmination of the Summer Reading Program. Adults are allowed only if accompanied by a child.

Again, check the Library calendar for dates and times. If you really want to ensure that you don’t miss a sale, join the Friends of the Library and get a heads-up months in advance! [insert membership link here]
